Barbados is the most Easterly of the Caribbean chain of islands and the most windward of the Windward Islands. The West coast is characterised by white sandy coral beaches and the East by lively surf and a dramatically rocky shoreline - great for surfing. The lively capital, Bridgetown is in the South of the West coast and sugarcane plantations cover much of the interior.
Both contrasting sides of the island must be seen and experienced . Many visitors stay a week on each coast to experience 2 different types of holiday.
Visit Bridgetown, still marked by British rule with its own miniature Trafalgar Square. Crane beach has the best view of the Atlantic coast, while most water sports happen in the calmer seas of the Caribbean. Two excellent golf courses and the famous Sandy Lane Hotel make this a jet-setters destination.
Ecotourism is being promoted on the island, giving tourists more to do in the Caribbean. Try cycling, hiking and walking tours and get to know both sides of the island whilst getting fit.
