New Zealand is located 1200 miles South East of Australia.
The capital is Wellington, situated on the Southern tip of the North Island which is separated from the South Island about 40 miles away, by the Cook Straight. Two-thirds of the country is mountainous, especially in the South. There are native rain-forests, glaciers, fjords and volcanic peaks in this incredibly diverse land. The population is around 3.5 million in a country 20% larger than the British Isles.
