Guernsey is situated in the Gulf of St Malo, 30 miles from France and 80 miles from England. It is smaller than Jersey, the other main Channel Island, about 15 miles away to the South East.
St Peter's Port, in the middle of the East coast is a traditional fishing village with a pretty harbour and narrow streets. The cliffs around the island are great for walking. Castle Cornet is where many historic battles have taken place.
Visit St Peter's Port, Castle Cornet, prehistoric tombs at the Dolmens. Sailing, windsurfing and other beach activities are popular, as is walking on the many paths around the island. Visit the satellite islands of Alderney, Sark and Herm.
It's less busy than its neighbour Jersey and yet a good starting point for a holiday to France and the other islands. Guernsey is well known for its good food, so make sure that you sample some of the delights on offer in various restaurants around the island! It's the perfect long weekend away spot for serious relaxation and has the best climate within the British Isles.
