Essentially the southern half of mainland UK surrounded by the Sea virtually on all sides except to the north, where it boarders with Scotland. England is steeped in history and tradition and it shows. The country side is mostly flat or at best hilly with lush green pastures alternating with agricultural land, old villages some dating back right to Norman times and modern cities. Very green and enjoys a moderate climate. Lovers of history will find plenty to get their teeth into. Those who enjoy re-visiting times gone by, have no shortages of places to visit. London is a cultural and business centre, and lately some of the best shopping, entertainment and gourmet places are to be found too. Art flourishes with many museums in the capital and elsewhere. England is proudly unique and traditional. The monarchy is a continuous one for longer than anywhere else in Europe,the present Queen having celebrated her diamond jubelee in 2012, there are palaces, great houses, inns and ancient countryside, not easily found anywhere in the world. Good sporting facilities too with many hundreds of golf courses to play on, Rivers with good fishing, country paths for walking, riding and the sea for sailing, surfing and in the summer for traditional beach holidaying.
