Vienna07-Jun-2013AustriaThis year the weather pattern all over Europe has been simply dire. The thunderstorm, the heavy deluge has stopped just long enough for me to have a super few days in the city staying with friends. Vienna constantly offers something new when it comes to art. I went to the Opera matinee for the new production of Tristan & Isolde, a brand new production by Sir David McVicar [I hope I spelled his name right] which was a great two hour experience that I will not forget. Tickets cost 10 Euro and the presence of the musical director, together with singers and actors giving a glimpse of the new production was fantastic value. I found out much about this classic love story that I did not know. After that landed up in the Rose Garden, not far from the Opera house for a beer and light lunch, to be followed by a visit to another Viennese institution ; one of the the many "Heuriger " in Grinzig. I recommend you try this informal home from home very inexpensive eating with local delicacies.
